Nurses perform a variety of daily activities and are always in close contact with patients. Nurses treat patients, educate patients about medical conditions, provide advice and emotional support, record patients’ medical symptoms and histories, perform diagnostic tests and analyze results, operate medical machinery, administer medications, and help with patient rehabilitation and follow-ups. If you choose to specialize, your duties may differ and you’ll have increased responsibilities.

Nurses may find employment at doctors’ offices, hospitals, hospice centers and schools. You may also find employment as a teacher at a nursing school. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the median salary for nurses is $65,470 in 2012, up from $52,330 in 2004.
