You can find peace and tranquility on the massive lakes, which include Lake Michigan, Lake Erie, Lake Huron and Lake Superior. Since the state is home to the Great Lakes, it is also home to many lighthouses – 124 lighthouses to be exact. Some are even historical landmarks that you can visit.

The activities may look like they all revolve around the lakes. But if you really think that, you'd be wrong! Michigan offers more than just hiking, boating and biking – there are museums and shopping areas to appease your other senses. Detroit – birth place of the automobile – has the Henry Ford Museum and the Detroit Institute of Arts, which houses one of the largest collections of art in the United States.

The state also houses quite a high standard for education. There are 45 public and 65 private institutions of higher learning. Some of the more notable universities are the University of Michigan, Michigan State University and Wayne State University. There are many to call UM their school with over 400,000 living alumni. The state is also home to a number of career colleges and vocational schools to learn your new job skills. Either way, Michigan is a great place to learn and live.
